TCDS Insurance Agency provides a full range of ongoing client services beyond placing your initial coverage. This page explains how to access policy changes, claims support, certificates of insurance, billing assistance, and other services your policy relationship with TCDS includes — and what to expect from each.
Policy Changes and Endorsements
Life changes mean your insurance needs to change too. Common policy change requests TCDS handles for Alabama, Georgia, and Tennessee clients:
Adding or removing drivers: New teen driver, spouse, or regular household member added; moving away from home, sold a vehicle, or divorce-related removal. Most auto endorsements are processed within 1–2 business days. Adding a teen driver triggers a mid-term premium adjustment — TCDS provides the new premium before applying.
Vehicle changes: Trade-in, new vehicle, new financed vehicle requiring collision/comprehensive, or dropping full coverage on a paid-off vehicle. Provide the VIN, year/make/model, and whether the vehicle is owned or financed. New vehicle coverage is effective same-day in most cases.
Address changes: Moving within Alabama, Georgia, or Tennessee can change your rating territory significantly — both up and down. Report address changes promptly. A policyholder who moves to a lower-risk ZIP and doesn't report it loses the rate benefit. A policyholder who moves to a higher-risk territory but doesn't report it may have a coverage dispute at claim time.
Homeowners coverage adjustments: Updating Coverage A to reflect renovation or construction cost increases, adding scheduled personal property (jewelry, firearms, collectibles), adding liability umbrella, or adjusting deductible. Annual Coverage A reviews are recommended for Alabama homeowners given recent construction cost increases ($150–$270/sq.ft. for residential construction).
Business policy endorsements: Adding additional insured, updating locations, revising payroll for WC audit purposes, adding drivers to commercial auto, and updating certificate holders. Commercial clients should contact their TCDS agent directly for complex endorsements.
Certificates of Insurance
Certificates of Insurance (COI) — ACORD 25 for liability, ACORD 27 for property — are available for all active TCDS commercial clients. Common COI requests:
Standard ACORD 25 certificate: Lists your general liability and workers' compensation carrier, limits, and policy period. Required by most commercial landlords, general contractors, and government contracts.
Additional insured designation: When a client, landlord, or contract requires them to be named as an additional insured on your GL or commercial auto policy. Requires policy endorsement in addition to the certificate — TCDS handles both simultaneously.
Waiver of subrogation: Some contracts require a waiver of subrogation on WC or GL. This must be endorsed on the policy — a certificate that lists it without a policy endorsement is invalid. TCDS ensures the policy endorsement and certificate are aligned.
Primary/noncontributory wording: Required by many government contracts and larger commercial clients. Must be confirmed with the carrier and noted on the certificate. TCDS handles this language coordination for clients with complex certificate requirements.
Standard certificates are typically issued same-day or next-business-day. Complex certificates requiring policy endorsements may take 1–3 business days for carrier processing. Email certificate requests to agency@tcdsagency.com with the requesting party's name, address, and any specific contract language required.
Claims Assistance
When a covered loss occurs, TCDS is your first call for guidance — before you file with the carrier in most non-emergency situations. We help you determine:
Whether the loss exceeds your deductible (and whether filing is worth the premium and CLUE report impact)
What documentation to gather before the first notice of loss
Which carrier number to call and what information they'll need
What your rights are throughout the claims process under Alabama, Georgia, or Tennessee law
When to consider invoking the appraisal provision for disputed valuations
For active emergencies (fire, active water intrusion, immediate storm damage), call your carrier's 24/7 claims line directly — emergency response can be dispatched while you contact TCDS for guidance. See our claims process guide for full detail.
Annual Policy Reviews
TCDS proactively reviews client policies at each renewal to check for coverage gaps, rate changes, and market alternatives. Items we review annually:
Coverage A adequacy for homeowners (are you keeping up with construction cost increases?)
Auto liability limits vs. household asset exposure
WC payroll accuracy for commercial clients (prevents large year-end audit adjustments)
Market comparison for accounts where rates have increased significantly
Discount stack review — are all applicable discounts being applied?
Clients are encouraged to call TCDS at (205) 847-5616 anytime their situation changes — job change, marriage, new child, business acquisition, or major purchase — rather than waiting for the annual renewal cycle.
Billing Assistance
Insurance billing varies by carrier. TCDS helps clients navigate:
Setting up direct bill (carrier bills you directly) vs. agency bill (TCDS invoices you)
EFT/autopay setup with individual carriers to avoid lapse
Reinstating lapsed coverage (30-day lapses typically require re-underwriting and may result in higher premiums)
Disputing billing errors or unexpected premium increases at renewal
WC pay-as-you-go billing setup for commercial clients with variable payroll
Frequently Asked Questions — TCDS Client Services
How do I request a certificate of insurance from TCDS?
Email agency@tcdsagency.com or call (205) 847-5616 with your name, policy number, the certificate holder's name and address, and any specific wording requirements (additional insured, waiver of subrogation, primary/noncontributory). Standard certificates are typically issued same-day. Certificates requiring policy endorsements take 1–3 business days for carrier processing.
How do I add a new vehicle to my Alabama auto policy?
Call (205) 847-5616 or email agency@tcdsagency.com with the vehicle's year, make, model, and VIN. For financed vehicles, provide your lender's name and address so we can add them as lienholder on the policy. New vehicle coverage is effective same-day in most cases. Your premium adjusts mid-term for the added vehicle.
What should I do immediately after a storm damages my home in Alabama?
First, ensure everyone's safety. For immediate threats (active water intrusion, structural damage, fire risk), call a licensed contractor for emergency mitigation — most homeowner policies require you to mitigate further damage, and carriers approve reasonable emergency costs. Photograph all damage extensively. Then call TCDS at (205) 847-5616 before filing your claim — we'll help you assess whether the damage exceeds your wind/hail deductible and what to document. See our claims guide for the full process.
Does TCDS serve clients who move from Alabama to Georgia or Tennessee?
Yes. TCDS is licensed in all three states. If you relocate within our service territory (Alabama, Georgia, or Tennessee), we transfer your book of business, handle the re-rating for your new state, and in most cases can keep you with the same carrier. Interstate moves outside our three states require transfer to a local independent agent in the new state — TCDS can refer you to a trusted agency if needed.
Can I access my policy documents online?
Yes. Most of our carrier partners offer online portals where policyholders can access declarations pages, payment history, and claims status. TCDS can provide direct login guidance for your specific carrier's portal. For clients who prefer one-stop document access, contact TCDS and we'll ensure you have current declarations pages on file for all active policies.
